Meeting with the Audiences via Skype Connection

Metruk was screened at the 28th Paris International Environmental Film Festival on 27 November and 30 November. I made Skype video call with the audiences in  the theater for both 2 days. It was very exciting and interesting experience for me attending to this festival.  Thanks to festival organizators.

Audiences were curious for the abandoned houses in my film. They asked if there were any restoration/renovation process for them, how old they were, where the owners were etc. It was sad for me to answer that nothing has changed positively but negatively since the time when I finished the project.  Nobody cares about them and they are still waiting for their death gonna happen soon I am afraid…

Metruk (The Abandoned) is Selected for FIFE 2010

The festival offers 140 films  from 38 different countries: Documentaries, fictions, short films… Isabelle Giordano is the godmother of the 28th edition of the International Environmental Film Festival.

Metruk is selected for the FIFE 2010 in the category of “Housing and Construction” with the theme of “Urban”.  It will be screened on Saturday, 27 November at 11:30  a.m. and also on Tuesday, 30 November at 11:45 a.m. in Paris. We will have a Q & A session via Skype for both days.

Workshop With Award Winner Producer Zeynep Özbatur

Zeynep Özbatur

Ms  Zeynep Özbatur was one of the guests of 11th International  Izmir Short Film Festival as jury member. She is a producer of acclaimed Turkish art house features Climates, Three Monkeys (both directed by Nuri Bilge Ceylan) and has won the 4th annual European co-production award, the Prix Eurimages. Nowadays she is working on a project with director Kutluğ Ataman.

On Friday 5th of November -just couple of hours later after we arrived to Izmir- she gave a workshop about Being Producer for the movies. I attended to her workshop which was very helpful and informative not only for film professionals but also for the cinema students and the audiences who have interest about film production.

She also explained about the definiton and mission of  a producer,  what kind of producer she is, the differences about using the executive producer term in Europe and Hollywood,  and most importantly the collaboration between a script writer, director and producer. She  gave us brilliant examples about the subjects such as project development, budgeting, project target etc.

Ms Özbatur says: “Firstly my criteria is beleiving the director of the project rather than a project itself. If I really beleive his/her talent, creativity and vision, I accept that project and being part of it as a producer. With the right strategy and plan, every single movie even the one seems less commercial has its chance for bringing money back. Awards are charming but they only gives you psychological / spiritual satisfaction. The most important thing is doing your job rightly and the best way. ”

Metruk’s World Premiere was in Izmir

I was invited to 11th International Izmir Short Film Festival which was held on between 3-7 November 2010 with my short experimental documentary Metruk (The Abandoned). This year, the only competition category was for the short fictions. Metruk was selected for the documentary category with 9 other documentaries from the world and Turkey.

Metruk was screened on Saturday 6, November as a final movie of 17:00 session. It was nice and exciting screening for me.

Jury members selected  Aprilis Suskhi as best film. Jury Special Prize went to Berf. A special festival award for 11th year went to An’ı Yaşamak.

I met some filmmaker friends and other friends who are on film business and we spent enjoyable time together such as attending parties, dinners etc. We watched interesting short films from all over the world during 2 days we spent in Izmir.

International Izmir Short Film Festival is one of the most remarkable short film festivals in Turkey. I wish them to find more fund, support and sponsorships in the future. Izmir’s audiences were wonderful with their excite, interest and cinema love. Many of them had to watch the films were standing still because the auditorium was full for all sessions. Many thanks to Festival’s President and also Izmir Cinema Association’s President Kayhan Kırmızıgül, Festival Program Director Tuna Yılmaz and other festival people for their kindness and support.
